Product Update: Discontinuation of Short-Term Major Medical Plans
Following careful review, Sanford Health Plan has made the business decision to sunset Safeguard short-term major medical plans. Effective as of 5:00pm (CST) on Friday, December 9th, Sanford Health Plan will no longer sell new short-term major medical policies in North Dakota and South Dakota.
As we work through the discontinuation of this product, please review these important updates:
- The membership in our Safeguard short-term major medical plans is minimal.
- Any current members and members with applications submitted with future effective dates will be allowed to keep their current plan until the termination date of the policy, which for many could be into 2023.
- SHP will be providing any current brokers with business on the books a report which will include all current members, and when their policy will terminate so you can proactively review as the annual open enrollment period for ACA plan options is open through January 15, 2023.
- The application and rates for Safeguard has been removed from the broker portal.
